2009 Castagna Un Segreto (Beechworth)
2009 Castagna Un Segreto (Beechworth)
A blend of sangiovese and shiraz. Achilles in a bottle. Half mortal, half god. Force of a Greek Armada with fiercely controlled aggression. Understated elegance yet powerful confidence. Remarkably robust & savagely sexy. Smokey, bitumen, bramble, truffles & all the right spices. Dried oregano, anise & five spice. Sweet chocolate & sour cherries. Immeasurably rich & velvety. Enchanting aroma profile that begs to be ravished.
Truly a wine that everyone should share in a lifetime. Magnificent. How can this young wine be so good and yet arrogantly promise to develop more complexity & savoury finesse with age? Speechless......
Tasted- 23rd & 24th June 2012 with Lamb shanks and chorizo sausage that had been slow braised in Rutherglen topaque for six hours.
13.5% Alc Vol
