1998 Campbells The Barkly Rutherglen Durif
1998 Campbells The Barkly Rutherglen Durif
Maroon to brown in the glass. Outrageous fruit & spice aroma. You can literally smell the pedigree of this wine with its density beyond comparison. Blueberries, rhubarb & black fruits. Fennel seeds, nutmeg, turmeric & rich dark chocolate. Worn leather, bitumen & earth.
It's got licorice legs baby although the alcohol level is in no way confronting. Dried fruit of prunes, raisins & figs. Tannins have melted away long ago to reveal an unctuous, unrivaled & breathtaking Durif that is pure sophistication in a glass.
Mellows & smoothes exponentially as it breathes. Each glass, each mouthful gets hauntingly better. A wine of true character.
Tasted 19th April & 11th May 2013
14.9% Alc Vol
